The new curriculum formulated by the Ministry of Education and Culture is the latest form of refinement of the curriculum previously. Although it has not yet been implemented in all education units, it is still being applied in a limited way, especially in some driving schools.
The curriculum with the concept of the new refinement is said to be the best curriculum as a result of improvements from the previous curriculum, including the emergency curriculum which was specially prepared when Indonesia was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic some time ago.
However, the Ministry of Education and Culture through Minister Nadiem Makarim reiterated that this new model curriculum can be used as an option, while its implementation is still being returned to the unit. education respectively, whether to use this new curriculum or continue to refer to the existing 2013 curriculum.
Many philosophies exist in this new curriculum, such as the learning process which focuses more on project-based learning methods and several other things that may not be found in the previous curriculum.
The pressure point or goal to be achieved in this new paradigm curriculum is more to prepare students to face challenges in the global era which are closely related to the application of technology in everyday life in the future.
So that the learning process puts more emphasis on the concept of learning or training directly on a project-based basis to students.
This philosophy is what makes this new paradigm curriculum fundamentally different from the previous curriculum, in the following ways:
Development of New Curriculum Structure
In developing the curriculum structure, in the new paradigm, the concept is divided into two activities, namely: intracurricular-based activities or face-to-face learning in schools and project-based activities that place more emphasis on student achievement, which better reflects the profile of a student with Pancasila views.
This profile of students with Pancasila insight is the basis for the new paradigm curriculum which includes standards of educational content, educational processes, assessments concluded on learning outcomes, which are developed by each educational unit independently.
Lesson hours
In the new paradigm curriculum, as much as 20 percent to 30 percent of lesson hours are allocated for project activities. However, in this new curriculum, there is no specific stipulation on the number of lessons per week as in the 2013 curriculum. In this new curriculum, lesson hours are calculated by year.
The concept of lesson hours actually provides a lot of convenience in terms of lesson time for educators to be more flexible in managing lesson time as long as the lesson hours for each subject are met in one year.
Combining Science and Social Science Subjects
At the elementary school level, both science and social studies are two separate types of subjects. However, in this new curriculum, these two subjects are combined into one with the name Natural and Social Sciences or known as IPAS, the aim is to be used as a provision for students before actually studying subjects both science and social studies through majors at the education level. next.
Applicability of ICT Subjects
Another philosophy of this new curriculum is the implementation of ICT or information technology and computer subjects and in this curriculum, the background of teaching teachers for these subjects does not have to come from the appropriate department because in the process teachers will be provided with special guidebooks for these subjects.
